What Is Kaolin Clay
Kaolin Clay, also known as China Clay, is a fine-grained industrial mineral composed primarily of kaolinite, Al₂Si₂O₅(OH)₄, formed as feldspar-rich rock weathers over thousands of years into stable, plate-like crystals. Under a microscope, kaolinite appears as thin, hexagonal plates rather than irregular grains — a morphology that directly explains the properties buyers specify against.
1) Brightness & whiteness — plate structure reflects light efficiently, improving opacity in paper, paint and ceramics.
2) Plasticity — wet platelets slide over each other, giving ceramic bodies workability for shaping and casting.
3) Low abrasiveness — smooth particles are gentler on mixers, pumps and dies, extending equipment life.
4) Fine, controllable particle size — classified to fine fractions for smooth finishes and coating performance.
5) Thermal stability — stable at high temperature; calcined kaolin resists heat further for refractory use.
6) Electrical insulation — low conductivity makes processed kaolin useful in cable and wire compounds.

Key Features of Pacific Minerals Kaolin Clay
Very few industrial processes can substitute Kaolin Clay with an equivalent alternative at comparable cost. Buyers in every industry are really asking one question: does this producer's grading and quality control match my specific application?
Product strength & dimensional stability
Contributes to the green strength of unfired ceramic bodies and mechanical strength once fired, while controlled shrinkage and firing behavior reduce defects and rejection rates.
Surface finish
Fine particle size smooths texture in coatings, paper and rubber compounds.
Brightness & opacity
Improves print quality and hiding power in paper coating and paint.
Plasticity in wet-processed applications makes shaping and molding predictable.
Workability
Inert nature resists reaction with most acids, alkalis and process chemicals.
Chemical resistance
Heat resistance
Especially valuable in refractory materials and high-temperature ceramic bodies.
